About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead continuous modernization and technical evolution of automation frameworks, libraries, utilities, and test architecture
- Develop and review robust, readable, efficient Python code for backend automation, framework services, test utilities, and integrations
- Profile and reduce test execution time; identify bottlenecks in setup, data handling, environment interaction, and parallel execution
- Improve test reliability by reducing flaky tests, strengthening diagnostics, logging, debugging support, and failure reporting
- Maintain and improve Playwright/TypeScript UI automation and integrate it with Python-based backend testing
- Improve CI/CD integration, test selection, reporting, repeatability, and feedback time
- Apply object-oriented design, modular architecture, reusable abstractions, clear interfaces, and appropriate design patterns
- Partner with software engineers, quality engineers, and infrastructure teams to investigate failures, improve testability, and prevent defects
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, design discussions, partnership, and practical guidance
- Establish coding standards and framework-development practices
- Measure execution duration, flakiness, failure diagnosis time, framework adoption, and regression coverage
- Support product testing and determine where automation provides the greatest value while retaining appropriate exploratory or manual testing
Requirements
What you’ll need- Strong, hands-on Python programming skills, including designing, implementing, debugging, profiling, and refactoring non-trivial code
- Typically, 8+ years of relevant software engineering, test automation, or framework-development experience
- Substantial ownership of automation frameworks
- Experience designing and evolving reusable automation frameworks, test libraries, or developer tooling used by multiple engineers or teams
- Strong software engineering fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, modularity, error handling, testing, debugging, and clean-code practices
- Experience building and maintaining integration-level, API, or backend automated tests
- Practical experience with Playwright and TypeScript for front-end end-to-end automation, or equivalent depth and ability to quickly contribute
- Experience with Git, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, and collaborative Agile software development
- Ability to investigate complex failures across application code, test code, test data, environments, and infrastructure
- Strong communication and mentoring skills, with ability to explain design trade-offs and raise engineering quality across a team
- Experience testing financial technology, electronic trading, capital markets, market data, order management, or other complex, high-throughput systems is highly desirable
- Experience with Python-based automation frameworks
- Experience improving large regression suites through parallelization, smarter test selection, test-data management, code coverage, performance profiling, and flakiness reduction
- Experience with distributed systems, asynchronous programming, service integrations, messaging, or event-driven architectures
- Experience with Linux-based test environments, containers, and troubleshooting environment-dependent failures
- Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools effectively, with appropriate review and validation of generated code
