About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Operate and maintain a landfill-gas-to-renewable-natural-gas plant and associated equipment safely
  • Perform housekeeping, weeding, site maintenance, minor fabrication, maintenance, and repairs
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems
  • Use SCADA for predictive and proactive operations and maintenance
  • Maintain major and ancillary equipment, including gas analyzers, compressors, pumps, filters, flares, gas treatment equipment, and site vehicles
  • Use the Operational Data Management System to record events, operational data, and daily walk-around readings
  • Assist with plant compliance, record keeping, inspections, permits, compliance equipment, and inspector meetings
  • Respond to plant callouts, typically within 2 hours
  • Assist with training coworkers and temporary operators
  • Travel to other plants for operational support, coverage, or training
  • Follow and help develop Standard Operating Procedures
  • Maximize plant efficiencies
  • Report to the Director of RNG Operations and work closely with the Plant Manager

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 1–5 years of plant operations and related experience
  • Trade school certification, high school diploma, or GED
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and background
  • Ability to read and understand basic Process Flow Diagrams and Electrical Schematics
  • Ability to use basic troubleshooting tools, including multimeters, thermographic, measurement, and gas testing equipment
  • Basic Windows-based computer skills
  • Established troubleshooting skills
  • Experience in maintenance planning and preventative maintenance strategies
  • General working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work independently, self-motivate, and communicate effectively with customers and ESI team members
  • Ability to work required 12-hour rotating shifts
  • Ability to safely climb on and off ladders and large equipment
  • Ability to safely lift and maneuver heavy objects, including materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance from a team member
  • Compliance with Department of Transportation regulations and mandatory drug and alcohol testing requirements
  • Valid driver’s license for state of residence and eligibility for coverage under ESI’s corporate driver’s insurance policy
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 15%
  • Preferred: experience in renewable energy, gas processing, chemical, power, waste management, or environmental air quality control systems
  • Preferred: instrumentation and controls experience, including PLC, VFD, and electrical systems
  • Preferred: renewable natural gas experience
  • Preferred: formal training in Root Cause Analysis methodology
  • Ideal: experience with process optimization, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, process metrics, KPI reporting, and control-loop tuning
