About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead technical efforts to improve model quality and consistency across expanding operating conditions
Introduce feedback loops and ML Ops to accelerate model improvement
Make decisions between rapid experimentation and sustainable, scalable improvements
Work with robotics and embedded teams on model deployment to devices for real-time use cases
Lead the current machine learning team across New York City, Philadelphia, and San Francisco
Identify team gaps and grow the team as needed
Lead development and evolution of training and inference pipelines
Move the organization toward on-device inference for time-sensitive use cases
Collaborate with Software, Robotics, Hardware, and Product teams to deliver business objectives
Report to the Head of Software Engineering
Develop models that classify point clouds, identify 3D objects, and describe object characteristics for utility decision-making

Requirements

What you’ll need

Experience in early-stage or fast-moving environments where scope and ownership evolve quickly
Strong familiarity with models built on images, video, LiDAR, point clouds, speech, or geospatial data sources
Experience building and using cloud-based training and inference pipelines, including orchestration, deployment, and operating models at scale
Willingness to drive architecture and approach across new and existing models and be accountable for model quality and consistency
Experience leading development of training and inference pipelines and moving toward on-device inference
3+ years of leadership experience, including setting team direction, driving architecture and design decisions, reviewing work, and mentoring engineers
Experience creating, curating, and cleaning training datasets and building evaluation and feedback loops
Strong programming skills and expertise in PyTorch, scikit-learn, and TensorFlow
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Nice to have: edge-device model development and deployment experience
Nice to have: MLflow, Lightning, Weights & Biases, or similar
Nice to have: semantic mapping, image processing, and/or computer vision fundamentals
Nice to have: Apache Airflow and/or Astronomer
Nice to have: Sensor Fusion, SLAM, and/or Visual Odometry
8+ years of professional experience (nice to have)
Legally authorized to work in the United States for Treeswift
