About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Conduct field and office-based environmental and property due diligence on commercial real estate projects
  • Perform Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, Property Condition Assessments, Property Capital Needs Reports, and asbestos and lead-based paint sampling
  • Travel to project locations, typically 1 day per week and potentially up to 4 days per week
  • Take detailed site notes and photographs
  • Conduct interviews with site contacts, regulators, and other stakeholders
  • Order and analyze government database records related to environmental conditions
  • Perform regulatory agency file reviews and review local, state, and federal databases
  • Review subcontractor reports for accuracy of scope of work
  • Draft standardized technical reports synthesizing field, interview, historical, and regulatory findings
  • Perform QA/QC on deliverables and complete requested revisions
  • Submit final reports within pre-established timelines
  • Compare analytical contaminant data to applicable regulatory standards
  • Maintain accurate field notes, documentation, and project files
  • Train new hires and cross-train Project Scientists on field methodologies, sampling protocols, and technical reporting standards
  • Comply with site-specific and company health and safety protocols
  • Work at client sites, in vehicles while traveling, and from a home office
  • Occasionally perform overnight or multi-day travel, generally not exceeding 3 consecutive days

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Biology, Environmental Science, Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field
  • 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Phase I/II Assessments
  • In-depth understanding of building systems
  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to work-product quality
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including report writing
  • Good computer skills, including proficiency with standard office and reporting software
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet established deadlines
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl on uneven outdoor terrain, construction sites, and industrial/commercial properties
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while driving, drafting reports, or reviewing records
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. regularly and up to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Ability to use field equipment, sampling tools, cameras, and computers
  • Sufficient visual acuity to read maps, historical records, small print, and computer screens
  • Ability to hear and respond to verbal instructions and safety warnings in field environments
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including respirators, safety glasses, hard hats, and steel-toed boots
  • Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions and uneven or hazardous terrain
