About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, build, and deploy intelligent agents and multi-agent systems augmenting clinical and operational workflows
  • Collaborate with Information Systems and Business Intelligence teams to develop AI solutions and future systems for Trillium HealthWorks
  • Embed within clinical and operational teams to identify automation and agentic opportunities and integrate AI into workflows
  • Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of AI solutions from design and development through implementation and sustainability
  • Develop API endpoints and implement Model Context Protocols for exchanging healthcare information and connecting AI agents to external tools and data sources
  • Connect AI agents to EHR, HRIS, and ERP systems via APIs
  • Optimize AI performance and grounding using RAG pipelines, structured outputs, prompt engineering/versioning, and few-shot/chain-of-thought strategies
  • Build and maintain AI reliability and safety infrastructure, including guardrails, PHI protection, evaluation frameworks, benchmarking, and human-in-the-loop patterns
  • Design and maintain agentic orchestration workflows with multi-agent coordination, state management, branching, error handling, fallback patterns, and observability/tracing
  • Ensure compliance with privacy, security, responsible AI requirements, PHIPA, and organizational governance frameworks
  • Monitor and troubleshoot production issues to maintain high availability and reliability
  • Report to the Director, AI & Digital Planning

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • BS in computer science, engineering or a similar discipline, or equivalent practical experience
  • 2-4 years in software engineering, AI engineering, or related role
  • Python proficiency
  • Experience building LLM-powered systems
  • Experience with at least one orchestration framework (LangGraph, LangChain, Semantic Kernel, or equivalent)
  • Experience with API design and integration
  • Familiarity with version control (Git) and CI/CD practices
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and customers
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex issues and identify root causes
  • Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada
  • Fully vaccinated for COVID19 and other vaccinations required by the Public Hospitals Act as a condition of employment
  • Preferred: Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
  • Preferred: Familiarity with agentic system design, MCP, RAG pipeline architecture, healthcare AI, and agentic/GenAI evaluation practice
