About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop and communicate a business unit vision and strategy aligned with company and enterprise goals, including Vision 2030.
- Set market strategy and prioritize markets, clients, and service offerings for portfolio growth.
- Drive business development and strengthen relationships with key clients, partners, and industry influencers.
- Steward pursuit strategy and go/no-go decisions for profitable growth.
- Support acquisition integration and growth initiatives.
- Provide strategic oversight across the project portfolio for margin, schedule, risk, and client satisfaction.
- Oversee monthly project reviews with Operations and Finance.
- Govern portfolio budgets, forecasts, estimates to complete, pricing, rate structures, and fee strategies.
- Intervene on underperforming projects through action plans, recovery strategies, and change order management.
- Drive utilization, DLM, backlog, forecasting, analytics, and portfolio governance.
- Lead transformation of the Mississippi Business Unit into a scalable enterprise platform.
- Implement the enterprise operating model and common operating disciplines.
- Drive change management, organizational alignment, accountability systems, and operational rigor.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, HR, Operations, Strategic Business Development, Health & Safety, and other business unit leaders.
- Build and lead the business unit leadership team and foster accountability, empowerment, innovation, and professional growth.
- Lead workforce planning, talent attraction, retention, succession planning, coaching, and leadership development.
- Optimize resource allocation for growth, profitability, and utilization.
- Oversee revenue, gross margin, overhead recovery, profitability, budgeting, forecasting, WIP, invoicing, collections, AR aging, and write-offs.
- Ensure commercial decisions comply with delegation of authority and enterprise standards.
- Champion safety compliance, quality standards, peer review, continuous improvement, risk identification, and mitigation.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field required.
- Master’s degree (MBA, Engineering, or similar) strongly preferred.
- Professional engineering licensure (P.Eng., PE, CEng, PG, etc.) is an asset depending on the service line.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in engineering, infrastructure consulting, environmental services, or related professional services.
- Demonstrated experience leading organizational transformation, change management, or enterprise-scale operational improvement.
- Experience leading teams and driving talent acquisition, development, and succession planning.
- Demonstrated success managing a portfolio of projects with P&L accountability.
- Proven track record in business development, strategy, and key account management.
- Experience supporting or leading acquisition integration efforts preferred.
- Experience interacting with senior executives, clients, and key stakeholders.
- Knowledge of the Mississippi market and region is a significant advantage.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Knowledge of contracting models and commercial negotiation strategies.
- Ability to interpret financial statements and lead data-driven operational decisions.
- Strong understanding of portfolio governance, KPIs, forecasting, and risk frameworks.
- Proficiency in building and scaling accountability systems, operating disciplines, and operational rigor.
- Ability to develop and implement cross-functional enterprise collaboration strategies.
