About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead a traffic team through traffic forecasting, analysis, and design needs across MOT, signing, signals, ITS, and lighting for transportation projects
  • Manage and deliver MOT phasing strategies, signing, striping, traffic control plans, traffic signal, ITS, and lighting projects from planning through design and construction support
  • Serve as technical lead on small to large-scale traffic design assignments
  • Ensure quality control and compliance with MUTCD, FHWA, AASHTO, DOT, and applicable agency standards
  • Prepare and oversee studies, technical reports, construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates from concept through final delivery
  • Coordinate with roadway, structural, planning, utility, drainage, and construction teams for integrated project delivery and business development efforts
  • Mentor junior staff across traffic and related disciplines
  • Meet client needs and solve transportation project problems

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Professional Engineering (PE) licensure; PTOE certification preferred
  • 8-12+ years' experience in traffic analysis and traffic engineering design, with a focus on one or more of MOT, signing, signals, ITS, or lighting
  • Experience and relationships with transportation agencies are highly preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with Bentley ProjectWise, MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, SignCAD, and other applicable software common to the field of transportation engineering
  • Experience with DOT's plan preparation procedures and standards
  • Experience with Local Agency plan preparation procedures and standards
  • Significant experience and understanding of local, regional, state, and federal design criteria
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Self-motivated with solid organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to interact with and work cooperatively with clients and multi-disciplinary team members
  • Ability to multitask while working on many projects at once
  • Willingness to work on projects locally or in workshare with other offices
  • Proven history of meeting project deadlines and budgets
  • Desire to grow personally and professionally while working in a team environment to create designs and drawings supporting client project goals
