About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead Triple Zero Victoria’s freedom of information, privacy, information release and statutory information request functions
  • Oversee complex FOI matters, privacy requests and complaints, Part 5 requests under the TZV Act, subpoenas and other compulsory information requests
  • Lead and develop a specialist team, setting performance expectations and managing workloads, workflows and business continuity
  • Provide authoritative and practical advice to statutory delegates, senior executives and business areas on complex, sensitive or high-risk matters
  • Coordinate responses to complaints, reviews, audits and investigations, including submissions to the Victorian Information Commissioner and Victorian Ombudsman
  • Develop and improve policies, frameworks, processes and assurance mechanisms supporting statutory compliance, privacy awareness and information governance
  • Report to the Director, Legal Services
  • Support Triple Zero Victoria’s emergency call-taking and dispatch services for Police, Fire, Ambulance and VICSES

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex FOI matters, including applying exemptions, public interest considerations and FOI Professional Standards
  • Strong knowledge of privacy, information access, information sharing and related legislative and regulatory obligations
  • Proven people leadership experience, with the ability to build a capable, accountable and high-performing specialist team
  • Highly developed analytical and decision-making skills, with the judgement to identify risks and develop practical, legally sound and defensible solutions
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, including experience advising senior executives and working with regulators, government agencies and external stakeholders
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in law, public administration, information governance, privacy, information management or compliance, or substantial equivalent senior experience within a complex organisational environment
  • Applicants must be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or a Permanent Resident
  • Employment subject to providing evidence of Australian working rights
  • Preferred candidates must complete a Pre-employment Medical Declaration
  • Employment subject to a National Police Check clearance
