About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support the firm’s IP practice with U.S. and international patent prosecution
- Review daily dockets and handle correspondence
- Prepare and e-file documents with the USPTO and other agencies
- Prepare documents for USPTO patent filings
- Draft routine reporting letters for clients and foreign associates
- Create inventor formality documents for signature and USPTO submission
- Respond to client instructions and inquiries concerning U.S., PCT, and foreign applications
- Utilize electronic resources from the USPTO and other government agencies
- Monitor and manage U.S. and foreign docket deadlines
- Collaborate with the IP docket department to clear daily docket reports
- Review client information for compliance with special instructions and procedures
- Maintain portfolio-management spreadsheets
- Develop and update worksheets to assist attorneys
- Stay informed on domestic and international filing rules, regulations, and procedures
- Complete filing and Issue Fee checklists
- Save documents and correspondence in iManage
- Prioritize daily tasks and communicate potential deadline issues
- Provide backup support to team members
- Collaborate with paralegal and attorney teams
- Track client-billable and non-billable time
- Ensure adherence to client-specific instructions and firm guidelines
- Meet an annual billable hour requirement of 750
Requirements
What you’ll need- Proficient in USPTO procedures and best practices
- Familiarity with U.S. and international patent law, including PCT matters
- Knowledge of Patent Center, the USPTO’s electronic filing and management system
- Strong organizational and administrative skills
- Ability to anticipate the needs of paralegals and attorneys
- Ability to work under pressure with strong attention to detail
- Ability to compose, proofread, and edit correspondence
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to provide quality client service
- Ability to understand client needs and produce accurate work products
- Ability to search websites for client communication and maintain accurate IP software records
- Ability to work independently in hybrid and in-office settings
- Ability to accept changing assignments and priorities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word)
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience demonstrating ability to perform the duties
- Minimum of two (2) years of progressive patent prosecution experience
