About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own complex engineering tickets end-to-end from design through implementation, testing, and production
  • Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and uphold code review standards
  • Author and review Technical Design Documents and contribute to Architecture Decision Records
  • Lead technical discussions and make well-documented architectural trade-offs
  • Build and maintain the Common Event Bus, including event validation, enrichment, EventBridge routing, cross-account targets, DLQ handling, replay, and Iceberg lakehouse integration
  • Maintain Kafka/Debezium change-data-capture pipelines and Benthos jobs
  • Steward event and API contracts, schema definitions, generated bindings, versioning, and compatibility in trueml-model (OTDS)
  • Write production Terraform deployed via Atlantis across sandbox, development, staging, and production environments
  • Use and improve AI coding agents, repository context, MCP servers, and reusable agent workflows
  • Help own LLM-backed services, including prompt/context design, structured output, tool calling, validation loops, model selection, token budgets, and cost management
  • Instrument pipelines with observability metrics such as delivery rates, validation failures, DLQ depth, and latency
  • Drive reliability and operational health improvements
  • Mentor junior engineers through code review, pairing, and direct feedback
  • Lead spikes and timeboxed discovery work
  • Partner with Data Engineering, Data Science, and Product on data contracts, schema changes, and onboarding event publishers and subscribers
  • Contribute to code quality, testing, operational readiness, documentation, and FinOps discussions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of software or data engineering experience
  • Demonstrated ownership of production systems
  • Deep experience with event-driven architecture, including event buses, schema evolution, idempotency, dead-letter handling, and replay
  • Hands-on experience with EventBridge, SNS/SQS, Kinesis, and/or Kafka with a schema registry
  • Strong multi-account AWS fundamentals, including Lambda, IAM, S3, Glue Catalog, Athena, Firehose, and Iceberg
  • Production-grade Go or TypeScript experience
  • Willingness to work in the JVM for legacy platform systems
  • Terraform experience at production scale
  • Daily use of agentic coding tools such as Claude Code or equivalent
  • Practical understanding of MCP; ideally experience building an MCP server
  • Hands-on experience building with an LLM API such as Bedrock or Anthropic
  • Experience with prompt and context engineering, structured output, tool calling, evaluation, and guardrails
  • Ability to reason about model tiers, token budgets, and costs
  • Experience with PII, tokenization, and least-privilege access in a regulated environment
  • Understanding of prompt injection and over-broad agent permissions as security risks
  • Ability to work independently and improve under-documented systems
  • Ability to write clear technical design documents and explain technical trade-offs to non-engineers
