About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Underwrite credit exposure for the most complex and largest credit relationships and circumstances
  • Actively manage a Middle Market Banking portfolio
  • Lead the entire commercial underwriting process internally and externally with prospects and clients
  • Underwrite, structure, and document prospect and client transactions
  • Independently manage complex deals and largest credit relationships
  • Analyze company performance, industry and competitive dynamics, and macroeconomic events affecting creditworthiness
  • Provide in-depth analysis of financial statements, projections, and business plans
  • Identify and mitigate key risks
  • Recommend and model appropriate loan structures
  • Maintain expertise in ancillary banking products and legal documentation impacts
  • Evaluate risk and meet regulatory compliance requirements
  • Monitor portfolio performance and trends and define client credit solutions
  • Identify portfolio issues and follow through on remediation
  • Maintain risk-rating integrity, conduct annual reviews, spread financial statements, and manage compliance and regulatory reviews
  • Manage amendments and waivers in the assigned portfolio
  • Expand client relationships through direct client calling efforts
  • Develop solutions with internal product partners that meet client needs and bank risk criteria
  • Partner with Investment Banking peers to deliver complex financing solutions
  • Maintain knowledge of corporate, investment, and commercial banking solutions, market trends, and business drivers
  • Share industry and economic insights across the Portfolio Manager organization
  • Manage assigned Associates and Analysts
  • Mentor and coach junior Portfolio Managers, Associates, and Analysts
  • Provide independent, forward-looking risk views and recommendations
  • Lead platform activities beyond day-to-day portfolio responsibilities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or related field
  • At least 7+ years of related training and experience in commercial credit analysis
  • Mastery level proficiency with MS Office Desktop applications
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Solid written/verbal communication
  • Sound credit skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize workflow and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • English language fluency required
  • Preferred: successfully held similar role with commercial financial institution or like experience
  • Preferred: industry or sub-sector expertise
  • Preferred: mastery of Truist Bank operating systems, including COMPASS, MRA, salesforce.com, and nCino
