About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Independently underwrite, structure, and manage complex sponsor-owned and leveraged middle market credit relationships
- Support new originations and manage existing relationships involving acquisition financing, recapitalizations, refinancings, upsizes, amendments, and waivers
- Lead the entire commercial underwriting process internally and with prospects and clients
- Analyze company performance, industry and competitive dynamics, and macroeconomic impacts on creditworthiness
- Perform in-depth analysis of financial statements, projections, and business plans
- Identify and mitigate key risks; recommend and model appropriate loan structures
- Manage assigned portfolios by monitoring performance and trends, defining client credit solutions, identifying issues, and following through on remediation
- Maintain risk-rating integrity, annual reviews, financial statement spreading, compliance, and regulatory reviews
- Manage portfolio amendments and waivers
- Expand client relationships through direct client calling and develop solutions with internal product partners
- Partner with Investment Banking peers to deliver complex financing solutions
- Maintain and share subject-matter expertise on corporate, investment, and commercial banking solutions, market trends, and business drivers
- Manage assigned Associates and Analysts
- Mentor and coach junior portfolio managers, Associates, and Analysts, including annual performance reviews
- Provide independent risk views and author recommendations regarding risk ratings, compliance, and underwriting
- Handle a large portfolio of complex and leveraged clients and lead platform-wide initiatives
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or related field
- At least 7–10+ years of progressive experience in middle market credit and/or mid corporate underwriting, leveraged finance, sponsor finance, and portfolio management within a bank or direct lending environment
- Mastery level proficiency with MS Office Desktop applications
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Sound credit skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize workflow and multitask in a fast-paced environment
- English language fluency required
