About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist in the overall supervision and administration of project safety
  • Coordinate safety efforts with business units and communicate safety conditions and behaviors to all levels of management
  • Develop, enhance, inspect, and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and processes across manufacturing, cultivation, warehouse, grounds, laboratory, and office areas
  • Maintain records and documentation for inspections and audits
  • Champion safety programs and initiatives and grow the safety culture
  • Train team members and participate in developing and conducting compliance training
  • Manage workers’ compensation claims
  • Inspect machinery, equipment, and working conditions daily for regulatory compliance and safe work practices
  • Conduct hazard assessments and evaluate appropriate PPE use
  • Inspect fire-prevention equipment, first-aid supplies, and other safety devices
  • Test work areas for hazard exposures using testing equipment
  • Prepare findings reports and corrective-action recommendations
  • Investigate accidents to establish root causes and recommend preventive measures
  • Build cross-functional safety teams
  • Maintain chemical inventory, SDS, and waste inspections per EPA guidelines
  • Document accidents, safety violations, unsafe conditions, and unsafe behavior
  • Implement and manage a behavior-based safety program
  • Assist with standardized job safety analyses and project-specific safety plans
  • Conduct safety meetings and instruct associates on safety practices and requirements
  • Demonstrate equipment use and develop safety-related standard operating procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2 or more years of experience or education in a safety related position (preferred)
  • Competency in understanding and correcting data discrepancies, data querying, root cause analysis, and identifying data trends
  • Computer proficiency and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Working knowledge of OSHA / EPA regulations and practices
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing / transportation safety is a plus
  • OSHA 10- and 30-hour certifications (preferred)
  • Must acquire OSHA 501 Certification within a specified time period
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Ability to support multiple site locations as necessary
  • Ability to multitask and work in a methodical and organized way
  • Attention to detail and self-motivated attitude with excellent work ethic
  • Bilingual ability is a plus
  • High School Diploma / 2- or 4-year Degree (preferred)
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Minimum 21 years of age, or minimum 18 years of age in CT, PA, and WV
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive background screening
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, move, and/or carry at least 50 lbs. as specified
  • Ability to work seated/standing for extended periods and perform climbing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and frequent hand movements
  • Ability to handle organic matter daily and wear required PPE in hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions
  • Visual acuity for reading, computer work, and visual inspections
  • Ability to communicate verbally at conversational levels in moderate noise
