About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Take full ownership of TrustEngine's relational database and data estate end to end
- Assess the existing database environment
- Execute a time-critical operating-system upgrade before year end
- Set the direction and standards for maturing the overall environment
- Serve as the senior technical authority on data for both engineering teams
- Administer Microsoft SQL Server on self-managed Windows Server running on EC2
- Administer MySQL on RDS
- Establish a database estate that can withstand scrutiny from customers, auditors, and the insurer
- Set data standards and review schema and data-access design across application teams
Requirements
What you’ll need- Deep and current Microsoft SQL Server administration
- Recent hands-on experience with full SQL Server installation and configuration on a self-managed Windows Server on EC2 or on-premise, including OS-level work beneath a live production instance
- Windows Server administration, including OS upgrades and migrations
- Must state the most recent SQL Server upgrade on the profile, including source and target versions, upgrade method, year, and Windows Server version pairing
- SQL Server high availability, including Always On Availability Groups and failover clustering
- MySQL administration
- AWS experience with EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, and CloudWatch
- AI proficiency, such as Claude, applied to day-to-day work
- 7+ years of experience
- Prior end-to-end ownership of a production database estate, including assessing an inherited environment and driving measurable improvement
- Experience setting data standards and reviewing schema and data-access design across application teams
- Snowflake administration and development preferred
- ETL pipelines and tools such as Rivery and dbt
- Data warehouse design and development
- Data lake on S3
- BI/analytics and tools such as Metabase and QuickSight
- Data governance and data quality practice
- SQL Server migration to a managed service such as RDS or equivalent
