About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage and mentor a team of backend software engineers
  • Conduct performance reviews, career development planning, and hiring
  • Establish engineering best practices for development, code review, and operational excellence
  • Promote sustainable on-call practices and production ownership
  • Lead the design and evolution of high-performance, client-facing APIs supporting core user experiences
  • Architect and maintain distributed microservices running in Kubernetes
  • Drive architectural decisions for API gateways, traffic routing, data sanitization, and service-to-service communication
  • Ensure systems are optimized for scalability, availability, observability, and security
  • Define long-term technical direction for backend infrastructure supporting large-scale events and global traffic spikes
  • Oversee metadata management systems, content licensing validation, and availability window enforcement
  • Guide third-party data ingestion, normalization, and feed integration across partner platforms
  • Lead backend support for integrations with Google, FireTV, Apple, Samsung, Vizio, and others
  • Own and evolve unified API gateway and data firewall capabilities
  • Establish and improve failover and disaster-recovery strategies
  • Partner with Product, Legal, ML, and Client Platform teams
  • Support personalization, recommendation, and content presentation capabilities through backend system design
  • Provide technical leadership during high-traffic campaigns and major global events
  • Establish standards for responsible use of AI-assisted development tools
  • Explore AI-enabled system optimization, anomaly detection, and developer tooling improvements
  • Ensure AI integration aligns with security, privacy, and compliance requirements
  • Supervise Senior Software Engineers, Software Engineers, and Associate Software Engineers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • Five (5) years of experience as a Backend Software Engineer, Software Engineer, or related occupation
  • Experience designing and operating high-availability distributed systems serving large-scale production traffic
  • Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs and gRPC-based services
  • Experience working with Kubernetes in production environments
  • Experience implementing observability solutions, including logging, metrics, and monitoring systems
  • Experience with Elixir
  • Experience with Rust in backend services
  • Experience designing API gateways, proxy services, or data firewall systems
  • Experience building metadata management systems and content platform services
