About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist transportation design personnel in developing and completing transportation project designs and construction document deliverables
  • Assist with design and production of municipal and state street, highway, and freeway projects
  • Work on roadway, roadside drainage, and utility designs under the guidance of Senior Designers, EITs, Project Engineers, Senior Project Engineers, and Project Managers
  • Prepare and check project plans and digital project deliverables
  • Develop roadway design plans and coordinate them with traffic, drainage, structures, and utilities disciplines
  • Prepare plan, profile, typical section, detail, and cross-section sheets
  • Develop roadway geometry, including horizontal and vertical alignments
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs and construction estimates
  • Produce detailed plan sets through multiple design submittals and quality-control procedures
  • Establish rapport with project team members and promote a positive team environment

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of five (5) years of civil experience or related field
  • Advanced understanding of AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Experience in roadway design, both municipal and freeway in Arizona, is required
  • Experience reading and interpreting utility records and schematics to create accurate utility base files (ASCE Quality Level C/D)
  • Experience preparing plan, profile, typical sections, details, and cross-section sheets for roadway projects
  • Experience developing roadway geometry, including horizontal and vertical alignments
  • Experience developing existing conditions and proposed design base files
  • Experience incorporating survey, utility, right-of-way, and aerial information into roadway design plans
  • Experience preparing quantity takeoffs and construction estimates from design plans
  • Experience coordinating roadway plans with traffic, drainage, structures, and utilities disciplines
  • Experience with “red to black” plan production and Quality Control procedures
  • Experience preparing plans for 30%, 60%, 90%, and 100% design submittals
  • Experience with pavement preservation/rehabilitation, widening, intersection improvements, new roadway construction, and ADA improvement projects
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Skills in planning and scheduling, organization, problem solving, and decision-making
  • Ability to work independently and directly with other team members
  • ProjectWise experience is a plus
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability under the company’s insurance carrier
