About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead roadway design execution for transportation projects across Colorado, supporting CDOT and local agency clients
  • Serve as roadway task lead within multi-discipline teams from concept development through PS&E and construction support
  • Coordinate closely with project managers, clients, and multi-discipline teams
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to engineers
  • Review designs for quality and support engineers through challenging problem-solving
  • Drive standards across the department and support initiatives improving design workflows, tools, and delivery efficiency
  • Understand client technical needs and identify feasible solutions
  • Apply engineering techniques, procedures, criteria, and judgment to complete engineering tasks
  • Evaluate design options and recommend practical, cost-effective solutions
  • Maintain a value engineering mindset through development, design, and construction phases
  • Develop plans, specifications, and observation reports
  • Recommend alterations to development criteria and design features
  • Review plans and specifications for constructability, safety, and risk management
  • Lead QA/QC efforts for roadway design tasks
  • Prepare reports and correspondence concerning assigned project direction and progress
  • Collaborate with business and engineering staff across markets and technical disciplines
  • Support marketing, sales, and business development activities
  • Assign work, coordinate tasks, and ensure quality and accountability
  • Lead PS&E deliverables and contribute to model development, plan preparation, and quantity development
  • Prepare and review alignments, quantities, and cost estimates
  • Identify risks such as right-of-way, utilities, and scope gaps and drive resolution
  • Support project management responsibilities, including scope development, schedule coordination, and client interaction
  • Participate in client coordination and support proposals and business development

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent is required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is required; Colorado licensure preferred or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe
  • NCEES Council Record is a plus
  • 6–10+ years of civil engineering experience preferred, including 4–5+ years in roadway design
  • Demonstrated experience leading roadway design tasks and contributing to multi-discipline project delivery
  • Experience with geometric design, grading, phasing, and constructability
  • Strong proficiency in Bentley OpenRoads Designer, including corridor modeling, plan production, and supporting team production workflows
  • Experience delivering CDOT projects; understands standards, specifications, and workflows
  • Familiarity with CDOT design manuals and stakeholder coordination
  • Experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Must have authorization to work permanently in the U.S.
  • Ability to execute complex assignments under minimal supervision
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize work to meet scheduled delivery dates
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Openness to innovation and applying evolving technology and AI tools to enhance workflows, solve problems, and drive continuous improvement
