About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, develop, and commission electrical control systems
- Integrate PLC and HMI systems for renewable energy generation applications
- Create, maintain, and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and project documentation
- Integrate substation systems and devices, including protective relays, RTACs, and communication networks
- Lead, test, and troubleshoot electrical control systems
- Perform on-site field commissioning, including system installation, device power-up, and network troubleshooting
- Collaborate with engineering teams, internal teams, and external stakeholders
- Ensure system compatibility and improve substation efficiency
- Complete tasks on time and within budget
- Report to a Technical Manager or Engineering Supervisor
- Maintain knowledge of industry standards and safety regulations, including NERC CIP
- Learn and adapt to new technologies and programming techniques
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a closely related discipline; equivalent professional experience may be considered in place of a degree
- Experience applying electrical systems, control systems, and automation concepts
- Experience with PLC programming and HMI design
- Efficiency in Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram, or Structured Text
- Experience designing and/or troubleshooting fiber optic networks
- Experience interpreting electrical schematics, including single-line diagrams and P&C drawings
- Experience with HMI design, development, and commissioning
- Understanding and proven application of automation, integration, and system protection principles
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to travel 25-35% of the time
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving standards
- Permanent authorization to work in the U.S.
- Openness to applying evolving technology and AI tools
- Preferred: experience with Schneider Electric, SEL RTAC, or Allen Bradley platforms
- Preferred: experience with ModbusTCP and/or DNP3
- Preferred: substantial experience with SCADA systems
- Preferred: experience with industrial control systems cybersecurity
- Preferred: experience tuning PID control loops
- Preferred: understanding of 3-phase power generation principles
- Preferred: experience with Inductive Automation’s Ignition platform
- Preferred: ability to interpret and implement Power Purchase Agreements and LGIAs
- Preferred: knowledge of voltage regulation concepts and ISO-specific requirements
