About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Guide engineering delivery and develop technical capability across the Electronic and Electrical discipline
- Define, develop, and implement reliable, high-integrity electronics for defence and aerospace applications
- Support architectural development, schematic capture, PCB layout input, hardware prototyping, and qualification activities
- Lead or participate in PDR, CDR, and other design reviews
- Ensure compliance with performance, environmental, EMC/EMI, safety, certification, quality, and customer requirements
- Promote Design for Cost, Test, Manufacture, Support, and Reliability
- Collaborate with manufacturing, production, systems engineering, Systems, Software, Mechanical, and Programme Management teams
- Provide day-to-day technical leadership and mentor engineers
- Support professional registration pathways and inclusive engineering culture
- Improve engineering processes, tools, governance, design quality, and technical standards
- Support recruitment, induction, development activities, and future capability planning
- Contribute to bids, proposals, and customer engagements
- Provide technical oversight across project phases and manage engineering risks, issues, dependencies, and priorities
- Support export controls, safety standards, and defence accreditation compliance
Requirements
What you’ll need- Demonstrable experience delivering complex, multi-layer board designs
- Experience with FPGA / microprocessor-based systems, high-reliability power supplies, or signal conditioning circuits
- Strong technical leadership, mentoring, and team-development capability
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience in customer-focused environments
- Continuous improvement and innovation focus
- Organised and quality-focused approach
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in dynamic environments
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) preferred, or ability to achieve chartered status
- Eligibility to achieve the relevant security vetting level
- Ability to undergo BPSS as a minimum, with further national security vetting for some roles
- Evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK, and employment and/or education history for up to three years
