About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Responsible for the overall operation and administration of the Clinical Laboratory
  • Oversee all laboratory services, operations, testing, and reporting
  • Perform strategic planning and develop departmental goals and objectives
  • Lead delegation, organization, coordination, and daily laboratory operations
  • Ensure quality across pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic testing phases
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, health, and safety requirements
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with hospital management, employees, physicians, nursing leaders, operations, and other stakeholders
  • Create and sustain accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and mutual respect across laboratory departments
  • Address employee relations concerns, performance issues, and workplace conflict
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain laboratory professionals and leaders
  • Implement succession planning and develop internal talent
  • Lead organizational change, operational improvements, system initiatives, and workflow redesign
  • Establish performance expectations, conduct evaluations, and develop corrective action plans
  • Support exceptional laboratory service and responsiveness

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related science field
  • Registered MT (ASCP) or equivalent
  • Minimum 7 years laboratory experience
  • 3 years of supervisory or management experience
  • Interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong management skills
  • Experience leading large, diverse laboratory teams in a complex healthcare environment preferred
  • Experience with workforce stabilization, staff retention strategies, and culture transformation initiatives preferred
  • Experience managing employee performance, coaching leaders, resolving conflict, and fostering workforce engagement preferred
  • Proven ability to lead organizational change, improve employee morale, and build a culture of accountability and collaboration preferred
  • Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and influencing skills preferred
  • Experience working in unionized environments preferred
  • Experience leading CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission, and state regulatory inspections with successful outcomes preferred
  • Experience managing laboratory outreach programs, reference laboratory relationships, and laboratory growth initiatives preferred
  • Experience overseeing laboratory information systems (LIS) and laboratory technology implementations preferred
