About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Coordinate the work of others in an assigned medical laboratory section
- Interview prospective laboratory candidates and recommend selections to the Manager
- Evaluate new hires and conduct employee performance reviews
- Schedule employees across laboratory benches and shifts
- Review work for completeness and quality and take corrective action
- Discuss performance issues and recommend disciplinary action
- Perform and interpret routine and highly complex chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests
- Guide Medical Technologist I’s and Medical Lab Technicians in interpreting complex or unusual results
- Correlate clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis, and condition
- Troubleshoot testing process discrepancies
- Develop new tests and quality procedures
- Ensure compliance with laboratory quality control, safety, and maintenance requirements
- Perform complex troubleshooting, repair, and modification of equipment and instrumentation
- Assist with new equipment and equipment modification rollouts
- Instruct technicians, technologists, and students in laboratory operations, equipment, and procedures
- Maintain accurate computer-based test records
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution
- Five years of related experience with demonstrated leadership skills
- ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist preferred
- Proficiency in the responsibilities of the assigned laboratory area
- Ability to perform and interpret chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests
- Ability to troubleshoot complex equipment, instrumentation, and testing discrepancies
- Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted
- Ability to work the specified evening shift, weekends, and every other holiday
