About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform routine and complex laboratory tests of all CLIA-defined complexity levels
- Provide physicians with rapid and accurate laboratory test results
- Work across major laboratory areas or specialize in Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, or Microbiology
- Assess specimen acceptability and maintain specimen integrity throughout testing
- Set up, operate, clean, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and modify laboratory equipment and instrumentation
- Perform preventative maintenance and document maintenance procedures
- Adhere to quality control policies and procedures
- Verify unusual, unexpected, critical, and life-threatening test results and notify appropriate clinical personnel
- Resolve and document procedural problems and report unusual or recurring issues
- Maintain records and documentation for TJC, CAP, AABB, Medicare, Medicaid, and hospital laboratory regulations
- Orient and instruct new employees and students
- Perform charge technologist duties when the supervisor is absent
- Assist with departmental and laboratory-wide inspections
- Obtain and process patient specimens using established techniques
- Assist in developing new medical laboratory procedures and techniques
- Maintain sufficient inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment
- Attend required meetings, conferences, and seminars
- Apply quality improvement practices and comply with health and safety requirements
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree in a chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution
- Professional knowledge of medical technology principles, theory, and methodology sufficient to perform clinical laboratory procedures
- Ability to endure periods of heavy workload and stress
- Ability to accept constructive feedback and initiate appropriate actions to correct situations
- Ability to coordinate eyes and hands to fingers rapidly and accurately in making precise movements with speed
- MT (ASCP) certification preferred
- Minimum one (1) year of clinical laboratory experience preferred
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted where certification, licensure, or registration is not required
- Ability to work Sunday through Saturday, 2:30 pm–11 pm, including every other weekend
- Ability to work on-site 100%
- Ability to perform required physical and environmental duties, including precise vision, hearing, motor skills, color vision, standing, walking, climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds
