About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform laboratory tests and report data used in diagnosis and treatment of patients
  • Perform hematology testing, including coagulation, urinalysis, rapid strep, Sofia flu, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Legionella antigen, wet prep, qualitative HCG, and occult blood testing
  • Perform Chemistry I and Chemistry II testing using AU680, AU480, Access2, and Triage instruments
  • Ensure test results correlate properly and take follow-up action for questionable results
  • Maintain equipment, instrumentation, supplies, reagents, temperature records, maintenance logs, and quality-control documentation
  • Process specimens according to the Specimen Collection manual
  • Perform start-up procedures, calibrations, instrument checks, and routine quality control
  • Troubleshoot testing process discrepancies
  • Follow Hematology, Chemistry, and Blood Bank protocols, including complex testing and preparation of component blood products for transfusion
  • Provide guidance and consultation to lower-level technologists, technicians, and others
  • Process donor specimens and transport specimens and blood products between campuses and sites
  • Monitor and manage inventory using FIFO practices
  • Travel between Marlborough and Nashoba/Groton to provide operational, administrative, or departmental support

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree or successful completion of an accredited four-year school of Medical Technology
  • Three years of related experience
  • Must qualify as a General Supervisor under CLIA regulations for high-complexity testing under 42 CFR 493.1461
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory sciences or medical technology from an accredited institution plus 1 year of laboratory training or experience in high-complexity testing; or associate degree in laboratory science or MLT from an accredited institution plus at least 2 years of laboratory training/experience in high-complexity testing
  • Perform low-, moderate-, and/or high-complexity testing as required
  • ASCP certification as an MT is preferred
  • LIS experience is a plus
  • Ability to perform hematology, chemistry, blood bank, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, immunology, and related laboratory testing
  • Ability to travel between Marlborough and Nashoba/Groton as scheduled
  • Ability to work the stated evening schedule, weekends, holidays, and required on-call shifts
