About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Answer telephone calls and triage customer requests to pharmacist staff
  • Triage pharmacy window requests
  • Deliver medications to patient care areas and pick up physician orders and returned medications
  • Complete scheduled rounds on patient care areas
  • Manage inventory, including ordering, receiving, storing, labeling, and checking expiration dates of medications and supplies
  • Package unit-dose medications with appropriate labeling
  • Pre-pack bulk medications and compound ointments, creams, oral solutions, and other medications as needed
  • Complete drug distribution tasks under pharmacist supervision
  • Operate and maintain Pyxis distribution systems, including refilling, loading, inventory maintenance, expiration dating, troubleshooting, customer service resolution, and controlled-substance discrepancy assistance
  • Assist with Pyxis inventory optimization and identify quality and customer-service improvements
  • Train colleagues and technical staff as needed
  • Complete IV room distribution assignments following USP 797 standards and pharmacy policies
  • Prepare patient-specific IV medications, batch IV products, parenterals, syringes, infusions, TPNs, and other IV preparations
  • Complete IV room quality-control tasks, including hood-cleaning documentation, temperature logs, and daily cleaning
  • Complete TPN and chemotherapy production according to internal policies and procedures
  • Complete nursing-unit inspections and identify safety, quality, workflow, and efficiency improvements
  • Act as a pharmacy liaison while delivering medications to patient care areas
  • Troubleshoot drug-distribution issues for nursing
  • Provide customer service to nursing and pharmacy teams
  • Participate in departmental and interdisciplinary teams, goals, objectives, and process improvements
  • Comply with departmental policies, health and safety regulations, documentation requirements, and attendance standards
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School diploma
  • Licensed as a Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Intern by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy
  • Baseline understanding of automated dispensing systems, technology and IV room processes
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to comply with all department and hospital policy and procedures
  • Ability to effectively interact and problem solve with other team members of the pharmacy department
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Good interpersonal skills, especially related to health care colleagues
  • Ability to read, write and speak clearly in English
  • For Milford: High School diploma or equivalent
  • For Milford: Massachusetts Pharmacy Technician license
  • For Milford: Certification from a Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy-approved certifying body (National Healthcareer Association or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board)
  • Preferred: National Pharmacy Technician certification
  • Preferred: Minimum one (1) year of experience in a hospital pharmacy
