About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform venipuncture and capillary phlebotomy procedures using appropriate specimen collection equipment and techniques
  • Review physician requisitions and orders to ensure appropriate tests are drawn and meet Medical Necessity guidelines
  • Prepare Advance Beneficiary Notices (ABNs) and obtain appropriate signatures when required
  • Perform EKG, pulse oximetry, point-of-care testing, quality control, and instrumentation maintenance
  • Process specimens through centrifugation, pour-off, aliquoting, labeling, and packaging
  • Provide patient data and insurance information for specimen registration
  • Create outreach specimen registrations in the ADT system when needed
  • Search the master patient index using Metricom or another Laboratory Information System
  • Log specimens and assign accession numbers
  • Label and package specimens for laboratory transport
  • Maintain supply inventory and submit replenishment orders
  • Maintain accurate manual and computer-based process records
  • Monitor and record refrigeration temperatures for supplies and specimens

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School graduate
  • Successful completion of a recognized program for training in phlebotomy
  • Basic life support certification required within 3 months of employment
  • Maintenance of annual competencies in BLS
  • Prior documented experience performing phlebotomy
  • Flexibility to work and travel to other campuses and locations as needed by the department
