About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Collect blood specimens by venipuncture and capillary from patients
  • Perform EKG, pulse oximetry, and point-of-care testing on inpatients and outpatients as required
  • Review physician requisitions and orders to ensure appropriate tests are drawn and meet Medical Necessity guidelines
  • Prepare Advance Beneficiary Notices for tests that do not meet Medical Necessity guidelines and obtain signatures
  • Perform associated quality control and maintenance of instrumentation
  • Process specimens through centrifugation, pour-off, aliquoting, labeling, and packaging
  • Provide patient data and insurance information for specimen registration
  • Create registration for outreach specimens in the Hospital Admission/Discharge/Transfer system when needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School graduate
  • Successful completion of a recognized program for training in phlebotomy or prior documented experience performing phlebotomy
  • Basic life support certification required within 3 months of employment
  • Maintenance of annual competencies in BLS
  • Ability to work and travel to other locations and campuses per department needs
  • Expected to report to work during inclement weather
