About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Obtain and enter demographic, insurance, and related patient information into computer-based registration/scheduling systems
- Collect patient and witness signatures on HIPAA, Consent to Treat, and other paperwork
- Verify insurance coverage and obtain required pre-authorizations, pre-certifications, and physician referrals
- Verify workers’ compensation and automobile coverage when required
- Schedule and/or arrive Radiology, Lab, and basic ancillary service appointments
- Complete Emergency Department and Labor & Delivery demographic and insurance collection
- Coordinate multiple services for patients
- Collect deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, self-pay payments, cosmetic procedure payments, and patient balances
- Perform Surgical Day admissions
- Perform bed control, transfers, discharges, and admissions tasks
- Provide preparation information for scheduled procedures and services
- Assess patients’ financial needs and refer them to financial counseling or appropriate departments
- Perform clerical duties including retrieving records, faxing, collating, typing, transcribing, taking and relaying messages, mailing packets, and transcribing paper orders
- Maintain accurate records, logs, files, and related information
- Complete online death certificate registry
- Receive and secure patient valuables
- Monitor and maintain Patient Access and Revenue Cycle work queues for accurate and timely billing
- Comply with departmental policies, procedures, objectives, health and safety requirements, and quality improvement practices
- Attend required meetings, conferences, seminars, and training
- Provide on-unit, in-person patient consent capture
- Perform other related duties as required or directed
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma
- Minimum of 1-2 years of data entry experience
- Proficient data-entry skills with attention to detail
- Computer skills including Windows and ability to navigate
- Strong verbal and written customer service skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to work in a high volume, team-oriented environment
- English speaking, reading and writing skills
- Daytime availability for required in-person training sessions
- Availability for on-site training 3 to 5 days per week, 8 hours per day, during the training period
- After training, availability to work during 2nd shift, 3p-11:30p
- Minimum availability of three 8-hour shifts per month after training
- Preferred: Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Healthcare related field
- Preferred: Experience in hospital admissions, insurance, billing, scheduling or telephone customer service
- Preferred: Previous insurance verification and/or authorization
- Preferred: Bilingual speaking, reading, and writing skills
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated education and experience requirements
