About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Administer various respiratory modalities according to Respiratory Care Department policies and procedures
  • Monitor and support patients on mechanical ventilation
  • Provide respiratory support and cardiopulmonary resuscitation as required
  • Assist physicians and anesthesia during intubations
  • Assist physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopies and percutaneous dilatational tracheotomies at the bedside under bronchoscopic guidance
  • Establish treatment plans and modify therapy according to department protocols for bronchodilator therapy and chest physical therapy techniques
  • Obtain arterial blood gases and perform radial and brachial artery blood draws for gas analysis
  • Set up and monitor ventilatory support equipment
  • Set up and monitor pulse oximetry equipment for continuous oxygen saturation measurement
  • Set up and monitor mechanical ventilators during surgical procedures as required
  • Set up and monitor oxygen-delivery equipment, including various cannulas and masks
  • Coordinate and maintain difficult airway carts
  • Identify and assess potential high-risk airway patients
  • Participate on the code airway team
  • Perform resting and trending pulse oximetry as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Current MA respiratory license
  • New graduates must become a registered respiratory therapist within 2 months after hire as a condition of employment
  • Current registration by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), effective January 2017 for new hires
  • Compliance with the NBRC Continuing Competency program and renewal of national NBRC credentials
  • Minimum of an Associate’s degree or equivalent in Respiratory Care
  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support or equivalent
  • Current certification in Neonatal Resuscitation – Memorial Campus
  • Critical Care experience
  • Technical and computer skills
  • Preferred: current or working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Care or another health care related curriculum
  • Preferred: current ACLS certification
  • Preferred: current PALS certification – University Campus
  • Preferred: pediatric experience – University
  • Preferred: NICU experience – Memorial
  • Ability to work nights, every other weekend, holidays, and cross campuses
