About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Administer respiratory modalities according to Respiratory Care Department policies and procedures
  • Monitor and support patients on mechanical ventilation
  • Provide respiratory support and cardiopulmonary resuscitation as required
  • Assist physicians and anesthesia during intubations
  • Assist with diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopies and percutaneous dilatational tracheotomies at the bedside under bronchoscopic guidance
  • Establish treatment plans and modify bronchodilator and chest physical therapy according to department protocols
  • Obtain arterial blood gases and perform radial and brachial artery blood draws
  • Set up and monitor ventilatory support equipment
  • Set up and monitor pulse oximetry equipment
  • Set up and monitor mechanical ventilators during surgical procedures
  • Set up and monitor oxygen administration equipment, including cannulas and masks

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC), effective January 2017 for new hires
  • Compliance with the NBRC Continuing Competency program and renewal of national NBRC credentials
  • Minimum of an Associate’s degree or equivalent in Respiratory Care
  • Actively working toward a Massachusetts license and obtaining it within 2 months after hire as a condition of employment
  • Must maintain a current Massachusetts license
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification or equivalent
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation certification – Memorial Campus
  • Critical Care experience
  • Technical and computer skills
  • Minimum of 2 shifts in a 6-week period, including at least one weekend shift
  • Must work on a major holiday and one minor holiday per year
  • Must work across campuses
