About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform all types of ultrasound procedures based on department needs, including general, transplant, abdominal and pediatric procedures
- Perform specialized or general procedures according to departmental protocols
- Perform vascular, obstetrical and other required ultrasound procedures
- Operate all types of ultrasound equipment
- Perform portable exams throughout the hospital, including operating rooms and intensive care units
- Record images and make hard copies where applicable
- Use RIS to schedule and complete exams
- Process labels, folders and films
- Serve as a resource to sonographers, physicians and students
- Assist with care and maintenance of facilities, equipment and supplies
- Maintain a clean and safe work area and report hazards or equipment breakdowns
- Interview patients, explain procedures, position patients and ensure comfort and safety
- Take vital signs as required and inform physicians of changes
- Maintain accurate patient records, statistics, reports and files
- Label sonograms properly and provide test information to physicians
- Immediately notify physicians of results revealing patient risks
- Comply with departmental policies, health and safety regulations and quality improvement practices
- Attend required meetings, conferences and seminars
- Maintain professionalism, respect and reliable attendance
- Perform other similar and related duties as required or directed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Specialized post-secondary training equal to two years of college
- Registration required by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted unless certification, licensure or registration is required
- Ability to perform general, transplant, abdominal, pediatric, vascular, obstetrical and other ultrasound procedures
- Ability to operate all types of ultrasound equipment
- Ability to perform portable exams in operating rooms and intensive care units
- Ability to use RIS to schedule and complete exams
- Ability to provide proper patient care and accurately maintain records
- Regular, reliable and predictable attendance
