About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work within Precious Metals Refining at Umicore’s Hoboken site in close collaboration with Technology, the analytical laboratory, production and Customer Support
- Manage logistics processes, including sampling logistics and stock management
- Track and prepare the department budget
- Guide automation and digitalization projects
- Own the technical reliability and availability of sampling installations, including crushers, mills, distributors, furnaces, robot cells and transport systems
- Monitor sampling representativeness and use data and statistics to eliminate segregation, loss and contamination errors
- Identify improvement opportunities, develop business cases and lead projects from concept through delivery with Technology and Analytical Technology
- Lead root-cause analyses and implement structural solutions for deviations, analytical non-conformities and customer complaints
- Manage, coach and develop a team of technicians and specialists
- Act as technical contact during result discussions and customer audits
- Ensure EHS, quality and internal standards within Umicore’s OE framework
Requirements
What you’ll need- Masterdiploma in engineering sciences (electromechanics, chemistry, metallurgy or materials science), or equivalent through experience
- At least 7 years of experience in a heavy process industry
- At least 3 years of experience in a leadership role
- Experience with mechanical processing of bulk materials, such as crushing, grinding, screening, mixing or drying
- Strong analytical and data-driven mindset
- Knowledge of variance, error sources and statistical process control
- Excellent knowledge of Dutch, spoken and written
- Good knowledge of English
- Knowledge of sampling theory (Pierre Gy, ISO standards for sampling) preferred
- Experience with automation, robotics or PLC-controlled installations preferred
- Background in metal recycling, mining, refining or assaying preferred
- Lean or Six Sigma certification preferred
- Knowledge of French and/or German preferred
