About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide academic advising, career and college exploration, study skills development, financial literacy education, and individualized support
  • Help middle and high school students prepare for college success
  • Track student progress
  • Collaborate with school staff and TRIO colleagues
  • Connect students to campus and community resources
  • Support students in partner schools across Presque Isle, Central Aroostook, Fort Fairfield, Caswell, Limestone, Washburn, and Ashland
  • Work primarily at partner school sites and follow school calendars
  • Travel regularly to assigned partner schools
  • Work occasional morning, evening, weekend, and holiday hours as required
  • Contribute as a key member of the TRIO Talent Search team
  • Support a federally funded, five-year renewable TRIO Talent Search grant

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Baccalaureate degree in educational counseling, education, psychology, social work, or another appropriate related field
  • Understanding of the unique needs and challenges of working with low-income and educationally disadvantaged youth and/or adults in an educational environment
  • Ability to travel to assigned schools
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ownership of a reliable, fully insured vehicle
  • Clean driving record to drive University vehicles
  • Deep understanding of adolescent development
  • Proven track record of respecting, recruiting, and supporting youth from diverse social, economic, cultural, and academic backgrounds
  • Working knowledge of secondary and postsecondary systems
  • Knowledge of student learning strategies, academic/vocational assessment tools, and group facilitation
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational abilities
  • Proficiency with standard workplace technologies
  • Ability to manage priorities, exercise sound judgment, and drive outcomes independently without direct supervision
  • Stable, reliable internet connection with speeds of at least 25 Mbps for remote work
  • Dedicated, distraction-free workspace maintaining privacy and confidentiality in accordance with University policy and FERPA regulations
  • Ability to accommodate a full workstation, including two monitors, docking stations, and other required equipment
  • Ability to complete an annual Remote Work Agreement Form
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Applicants must not require visa sponsorship
