About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide the vision, strategic architecture, and operational leadership to build and scale the UK digital delivery function
- Partner with the Engineering Director to develop a department growth strategy aligned with engineering and business targets
- Define team structures, resource requirements, and headcount business cases
- Translate corporate engineering goals into a measurable digital delivery roadmap
- Establish departmental KPIs, budgets, and operational frameworks across active EPC frameworks
- Pioneer AI automation tools and computational scripts for underground cabling, overhead lines, and substations
- Institutionalize 4D simulations via Synchro / Fuzor and Virtual Reality environments
- Establish and govern BIM standards, QA/QC workflows, and clash detection / resolution reporting
- Implement site data capture frameworks using laser scanning, point clouds, and UAV topology mapping
- Own the Common Data Environment strategy, metadata governance, COBie asset data drops, and information security protocols
- Formulate digital and BIM execution strategies for major bids, including cost proposals, qualification statements, and digital tenders
- Champion digital and AI capabilities in client presentations, industry publications, and technical panels
- Build relationships with clients, contractors, and industry bodies; present technical reports and publish in industry journals
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in electrical/civil engineering, Construction Management, or an accredited digital infrastructure field
- Minimum 10 years of experience overseeing complex BIM frameworks across diverse teams
- Expert-level proficiency in Revit, Navisworks, Synchro, Dynamo, Fuzor, Power BI, and BIM360/ACC
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the UK Transmission & Distribution (T&D) industry
- Deep understanding of NGET / SSE Standards, site requirements, and complex substation / linear asset designs
- Proven experience building a team, sub-department, or strategic initiative from the ground up, including headcount planning and budget management
- Demonstrable experience applying computational design, scripting, or AI-driven automation to engineering workflows
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
- Chartered Engineer status (e.g., IET or ICE) desirable
- Experience with software vendor negotiations, Capex / Opex technology strategies, and intellectual property asset creation desirable
