About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, preprocess, mesh, simulate, and post-process hydrodynamics for maritime hull designs at scale and speed
- Develop systematic methods to design, mesh, and simulate hundreds or thousands of hull geometries
- Build data pipelines to train foundation AI models
- Guide product and AI model development by working on research problems with the AI team
- Bridge traditional CFD and machine learning
- Work directly with clients to solve problems and define benchmark datasets, validation criteria, and workflows
- Generate high-quality simulation data at scale
- Advise the AI research team on free surface modeling, wave dynamics, resistance components, appendage effects, propeller-hull interaction, seakeeping, maneuvering, and multiphase flow
- Lead technical customer conversations with customers and internal teams
- Translate between marine CFD and AI domains
- Work directly with the CEO and founding team to shape the product around maritime engineering problems
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3+ years of industry hands-on experience in hydrodynamics CFD simulation in maritime industries, including preprocessing, simulation, post-processing, and design
- Expert in solver frameworks (STAR-CCM+, FINE/Marine, OpenFOAM, ORCA, or similar)
- Deep understanding of ship hydrodynamics, hull form design, free surface flows, meshing strategies, boundary conditions, and numerical methods
- Solid understanding of parameterizing CAD to generate different variants of geometry
- Strong communication skills to bridge customers, engineering, and research teams
- Outstanding execution velocity and delivery
- Exceptional creativity, problem-solving ability, ambition, and attention to detail
- Comfortable working in high-intensity, fast-paced startup environments with evolving priorities and tight deadlines
- US citizenship or Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) required by application question
- Willingness to work 5 days a week in office in San Francisco required by application question
