About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Deploy, configure, maintain, secure, and optimize Linux server environments supporting scientific research, academic computing, and large-scale data systems
  • Install, configure, patch, and maintain RHEL across physical and virtual environments
  • Monitor system performance, resource utilization, and network health
  • Proactively identify and resolve infrastructure issues
  • Develop and maintain Ansible, Bash, and Python automation and configuration-management frameworks
  • Implement security protocols, manage user access controls, apply security patches, and participate in vulnerability remediation and compliance audits
  • Coordinate file-system management with storage teams
  • Ensure reliable data backup and disaster recovery procedures
  • Provide Tier-2 and Tier-3 support to researchers, faculty, and internal developers
  • Maintain system documentation, network topologies, standard operating procedures, and inventory logs
  • Present papers, talks, posters, and similar content at local, regional, and national meetings

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related technical field
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in Linux system administration
  • 3+ years of experience installing, configuring, tuning, and troubleshooting modern Enterprise Linux operating systems
  • Strong working knowledge of DNS, DHCP, NFS, SSH, and LDAP integration
  • Experience with Ansible, Bash, and Python
  • Familiarity with VMware and Kubernetes
  • Strong understanding of enterprise information security best practices
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related technical field
  • Preferred: Experience with Ansible Automation Platform, OpenShift, Globus, and Open OnDemand
  • Preferred: Experience in higher education, research computing, or HPC environments
  • Preferred: Familiarity with Lustre and Slurm
  • Preferred: Relevant professional certifications such as RHCE
  • Must be able to access the machine room within 90 minutes of a system outage during working hours
