About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Administer a federal highway safety grant program in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, community organizations, colleges and universities, and commercial vendors
  • Teach sub-grantees grant management processes during annual grant orientation meetings
  • Supervise project directors and provide guidance and recommendations for report submissions
  • Manage federally funded highway safety projects
  • Conduct on-site visits and phone calls to audit grant program activities and procedures
  • Provide guidance and authorization regarding budgetary compliance of grant-funded expenditures
  • Conduct post-application reviews of goals, objectives, budget line items, and allowable costs
  • Review grant applications, contracts, quarterly reports, claims, and related documents for accuracy and compliance
  • Ensure the legality of grant adjustments
  • Represent the THSO at conferences and meetings as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three to five years of work experience in a related field
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational abilities
  • Ability to conduct independent analyses
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Solid managerial abilities
  • Extensive organizational proficiency
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work effectively with agencies from the local to the federal level
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software Products, including Excel
  • Valid Tennessee driver’s license
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without current or future employment-based visa sponsorship
  • Familiarity with current practices and procedures in highway safety program administration is desirable
  • Ability to interact well with colleagues and program stakeholders external to THSO and UT
