About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead Unlearn's engineering function across core engineering, applications, ML/AI Ops, and infrastructure
Own the quality, reliability, compliance, and security of systems powering the company’s work
Ensure AI tools and systems are used heavily for efficiency and impact
Define projects, partner on scoping and estimation, and run delivery practices that turn commitments into shipped work
Partner with Product, R&D, and Delivery leadership to understand requirements, shape technical approaches, and deliver customer value
Translate company strategy into engineering sequencing and priorities
Hold teams accountable for delivering the engineering roadmap on business-required timelines
Report on engineering progress, capacity, and risk as a member of the leadership team
Maintain aligned expectations between company leadership and engineering
Communicate priorities and context throughout the engineering organization
Establish an AI-centric engineering culture with modern toolsets
Own engineering hiring and team design

Requirements

What you’ll need

10+ years in software engineering
Significant experience leading engineering organizations at the Senior Director or VP level
Experience managing managers and senior technical leaders across multiple engineering disciplines
Track record of strong execution in highly collaborative and cross-functional environments
Experience leading across infrastructure/DevOps, backend or platform engineering, and application/front-end development
Experience in regulated environments where compliance is a key factor in system design
Ability to translate company strategy into an engineering roadmap and hold teams accountable for commitments
Experience partnering with Product, R&D, and customer-facing delivery teams
Experience building internal tools and platforms that measurably improve technical team effectiveness
Experience in growth-stage or early-stage companies building engineering processes and delivery discipline
Experience in life sciences, healthcare, or another regulated, data-intensive domain is a plus
