About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own wholesale growth for a premium baby and layette brand across department stores, luxury and better specialty, high-productivity independents, and boutique wholesale
  • Deepen and professionalize existing premium partnerships
  • Design and sell expansion programs that open appropriate accounts without diluting brand positioning
  • Personally own key premium accounts and line reviews while leading independent sales representatives
  • Build buyer, planner, and merchandising-leadership relationships; prepare seasonal line reviews, assortment architecture, and presentation books
  • Protect retail brand standards, pricing integrity, assortment quality, and account fit
  • Monitor account velocity, inventory, markdown risk, and service issues
  • Negotiate terms, seasonal programs, and co-op within approved guardrails
  • Design premium door-opening and in-store programs, including capsules, color stories, fixtures, shop-in-shop concepts, gifting moments, and limited exclusives
  • Build a 12–18 month premium expansion plan and sell-in tools
  • Lead partnerships from first meeting through vendor setup and first order
  • Represent the brand at premium and juvenile markets and maintain a qualified pipeline
  • Recruit, onboard, set goals for, train, and manage independent sales representatives
  • Coordinate market and showroom appointments and resolve territory questions
  • Partner cross-functionally with supply chain, finance, product, merchandising, marketing, compliance, and quality
  • Deliver rolling account/style forecasts and weekly/monthly reporting
  • Use retailer portals and POS data to diagnose performance
  • Maintain CRM hygiene for accounts, contacts, opportunities, and activity
  • Achieve first-year success measures including a documented premium-account plan, expansion program sales, rep coverage, monthly forecasts, improved velocity and presentation quality, and durable buyer relationships

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years in wholesale sales or business development for a premium or better brand, with substantial experience in baby, juvenile, layette, infant apparel, or a closely adjacent premium category
  • Demonstrated ownership of premium retail accounts, including department store and/or luxury or better specialty accounts
  • Experience presenting at line review and building a seasonal assortment story
  • Hands-on experience recruiting, managing, and holding accountable independent sales representatives covering specialty and department doors
  • Proven ability to design and sell programs and open brand-appropriate doors
  • Experience working cross-functionally with operations, inventory, finance, and compliance in a lean brand environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field, or equivalent career experience
  • Willingness to travel for accounts, markets, and trade shows, typically 25–40%, with seasonal peaks
  • Polished written and verbal communication; buyer-ready decks and disciplined follow-up
  • Judgment to protect brand and margin while closing appropriate doors
  • Ability to manage an account book, rep network, and internal workstreams
  • Ability to use velocity, turn, and forecast variance to prioritize time
  • Nice-to-have qualifications are explicitly not required: premium buyer relationships, department-store line review experience, premium in-store program design, independent-rep/showroom relationships, ABC Kids Expo or equivalent market presence, department-store vendor mechanics, premium textile/layette product fluency, distribution optimization, CRM and Excel familiarity, and hospital gift/luxury gifting/registry experience
