About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, build, test and operate cloud-based microservices using Java, Spring Boot and Kafka
Write automated unit, integration and end-to-end tests as part of daily work
Contribute to product design by writing technical specifications for engineers and AI agents
Use AI-assisted development, coding agents, AI code review and spec-driven workflows
Help evolve the team's use of AI-assisted development
Work with Unzer Tech standards and processes and help improve them
Participate actively in team and organizational knowledge-sharing
Develop core platform software products covering gateways, merchant onboarding and offboarding, billing systems and debtor management solutions

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years of experience with Java 21+ and Spring Boot
Solid knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems and distributed systems
Experience with SQL databases, including schema design and migrations; NoSQL is a plus
Experience with microservices, event-driven messaging using Kafka and Avro, and Git-based workflows
Experience writing automated unit, integration and end-to-end tests
Experience documenting deliveries
Experience in architecture design, such as Domain-Driven Design, and common design patterns
Experience with observability tools such as Coralogix or OpenTelemetry
Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants/agents such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot, including critically reviewing, testing and owning generated code
Hands-on mentality
Frontend experience with Angular is nice to have
Know-how in delivering software to AWS is nice to have
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes and GitOps is nice to have
Experience building agentic workflows is nice to have
Experience in regulated environments such as payments, PCI-DSS and GDPR is nice to have
CV/application in English
