About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Establish and maintain division engineering standards for hardware and panel design, network architecture, software and templating, and documentation
- Own the technical execution model for DDC/Niagara BAS and PLC/SCADA EPMS scopes
- Provide senior engineering leadership on first-of-a-kind programs, including direct hyperscaler scopes and liquid-cooling controls
- Conduct technical reviews at design and pre-commissioning milestones
- Intervene hands-on on high-risk projects
- Hire, assign, and develop engineering staff, including Systems Engineers, System Integrators, SCADA Engineers, OT Network Engineers, and MSI Platform Engineers
- Co-own the MCSI Academy by defining curricula, certifying trainee readiness, and assigning scope eligibility
- Represent Upchurch engineering in hyperscaler capability reviews, basis-of-design workshops, and vendor-qualification audits
- Support estimating and business development with technical strategy
- Build and lead the engineering and integration organization from the ground up
- Write the division's technical standards library and serve as the technical authority for hyperscaler clients
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, or 8+ years of hands-on controls leadership in lieu
- 10+ years total in BAS/EPMS/DDC/PLC controls engineering
- Significant leadership on large-scale mission-critical or hyperscale data center programs
- Expert knowledge of DDC and Niagara-based systems
- Expert knowledge of PLC platforms, including Allen-Bradley and Schneider
- Expert knowledge of SCADA, including Ignition or equivalent
- Expert knowledge of EPMS integration
- Expert knowledge of industrial panel design
- Expert knowledge of OT protocols: BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, MQTT, and OPC-UA
- Controls networking and IT/OT security knowledge
- Mission-critical HVAC knowledge, including chilled-water plants, heat rejection, and liquid cooling
- Experience leading engineering teams, owning technical standards, and enforcing QA/QC processes
- Revit and AutoCAD literacy
- Strong client-facing communication at the engineering-leadership level
- Direct AWS/hyperscaler controls program experience
- PE or equivalent
- Experience standing up an engineering department or standards program from scratch
- Ability to work remotely from the United States
- Ability to travel up to 15%
- Extended hours during critical startup, testing, and commissioning windows
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
