About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the Free People Technical Design team across all technical design levels, from Associate Managers to Assistant Technical Designers
  • Hold regular touch bases with cross-functional partners in Product Development, Production, Design, and Buying
  • Collaborate closely with URBN regional office partners and Technical Design leaders from FP Movement, Anthropologie, and Urban Outfitters
  • Build, develop, coach, and engage high-performing teams; set expectations, provide feedback, and make management decisions
  • Monitor team workload and adjust resources to meet business demands, including directly covering and processing work as needed
  • Lead the Free People Technical Design team's digital transformation and expand 3D knowledge and best practices
  • Monitor digital and virtual samples while maintaining brand fit and quality standards
  • Develop strategy for the Free People collection and execute cross-functional projects
  • Solicit and integrate supplier, process, and team feedback
  • Manage team output and drive decisions to meet or exceed calendar deadlines
  • Determine solutions and arrange resources to execute plans
  • Identify operational weaknesses and opportunities to improve work quality and velocity
  • Promote effective feedback, cross-functional collaboration, and regional collaboration
  • Share relevant information and knowledge across teams

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 10+ years of Senior Technical Design Manager experience or higher
  • Experienced people manager and leader of leaders
  • Extremely flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to handle quick changes in priorities and guide and mentor direct reports through change management
  • Expert in fit standards, construction, and tolerances across knit and woven apparel, including denim, intimate apparel, structured wovens, outerwear, heavyweight knits, and soft wovens
  • Expert-level experience handling multiple washes in wovens and knits
  • Advanced knowledge of garment testing and the effects of washes on specific woven and knit fabrics, fiber content, and trims
  • Experience handling multiple overlapping calendars, including wholesale and retail, chase, and late add
  • Experience with pattern making and CLO 3D software
  • Experience coaching teams using software to conduct live 3D fittings with design and buying teams
  • Proactive and excellent communicator able to work with large, multi-level teams
  • Experience traveling internationally, visiting factory/production lines, and working with QA processes
