About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide Advanced Practice Provider services, including assessment and management of patients across clinical settings
  • See patients virtually in an outpatient-only practice
  • Work with the medical director, administrative management, nursing, and interprofessional team members to facilitate patient care
  • Independently assess, diagnose, and initiate medical processes and procedures within training, experience, and credentialing
  • Perform and document comprehensive health histories and physical assessments, including emergency therapy when needed
  • Formulate diagnoses, identify problems and health-risk profiles, and communicate with the healthcare team
  • Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic studies such as x-rays and laboratory tests
  • Perform procedures within scope of practice and UVA Health System credentialing and privileges
  • Order medications, treatments, and therapies in accordance with Virginia prescribing regulations
  • Request consultations and initiate specialist referrals
  • Evaluate patient responses to disease processes and therapeutic or diagnostic interventions
  • Educate and support patients and families regarding disease processes and treatment plans
  • Participate in on-call responsibilities as determined by the department or unit
  • Manage patients according to UVA Medical Center and UVA UPG policies and procedures
  • Report births, deaths, communicable disease outbreaks, and other legally required health information
  • Meet quality standards established by the Medical Director and/or UVA Health System
  • Participate in committees, student clinical experiences, and peer or other review activities as requested
  • Prepare reports, claims, and correspondence required for professional services
  • Serve as a clinical resource to nursing, medical, and allied health practitioners
  • Follow UPG, UVA Medical Center, CMS, and contracted payer policies and procedures
  • Accurately assign CPT and ICD-10 codes
  • Maintain practice through continuing education and professional development activities
  • Perform other duties commensurate with licensed independent provider services

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2–3 years of experience required
  • Must reside in Virginia
  • Must be licensed in Virginia
  • Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree
  • License or license eligible as an Advanced Practice Provider as set forth by the state of Virginia
  • If Nurse Practitioner, license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required
  • Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required
  • Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), as required, specific to position
  • Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to write legibly
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 50–100 lbs
  • May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease
