About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Gather and write technical documents for information system installation, operation, and maintenance
  • Write technical documents, procedure manuals, service manuals, and related technical publications in clear and concise language
  • Ensure technical documents are readable and understandable by technical and non-technical personnel
  • Ensure documentation correctly references organizational policies
  • Review, perform quality assurance, and edit applicable materials
  • Acquire and verify knowledge by working with stakeholders developing new products and services and improving existing documentation
  • Observe information system pilots and examine drawings, notes, article rewrites, manuals, and similar publications
  • Ensure conformance to existing IT standards by revising text and recommending scope changes
  • Ensure appropriate use of technical terminology in IT-related documents
  • Work with system owners and subject matter experts to understand existing and planned technologies and standards
  • Perform requirement analysis, software design, development, installation, testing, and maintenance for application system components
  • Perform operating system and/or product evaluation, integration, testing, and problem diagnosis/resolution
  • Provide technical leadership, review work products, and make technical recommendations for changes in supported technical architecture
  • Work in an object-oriented environment

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in writing, editing, and preparing business or technical documentation for SOPs, user guides/job aids, workflow diagrams, etc.
  • At least 1–2 years supporting a federal agency
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience utilizing SharePoint or related tools for document management, collaboration, and content organization
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Teams
  • Working knowledge of IT standards and frameworks
  • Quiet and distraction-free workspace with adequate internet
  • Full attention and availability during working hours
  • Ability to maintain a schedule during core business hours aligned with coworkers and clients
  • Disclosure of current or future outside employment and written approval for outside employment or professional activities
  • Ability to sit or stand at a desk for prolonged periods and consistently operate a computer
  • Frequent communication via electronic communication, phones, and in person
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move moderate amounts of weight, typically less than 20 pounds
