About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Prepare patients, imaging equipment, supplies, and other equipment for Hybrid surgical procedures using sterile technique
- Support physicians and other medical personnel during real-time surgery by evaluating radiologic options, performing radiologic imaging, and solving equipment issues
- Perform radiologic imaging before, during, and/or after surgery for clinical guidance and navigation
- Position patients correctly, prepare equipment, and monitor patient condition before, during, and after scanning
- Create accurate, high-quality images by operating imaging and Hybrid Lab equipment and adapting to planned procedures
- Provide physicians input on fluoroscopy imaging and act as a fluoroscopy equipment resource
- Anticipate fluoroscopy needs, exposure factors, and contrast media requirements
- Select and handle instruments and supplies; monitor, replenish, and inventory countable items before and after surgery
- Notify the supervisor of malfunctioning equipment
- Assist Nursing with patients’ physical and psychological needs, including monitoring vital signs and minimizing discomfort
- Anticipate physicians’ and team members’ needs during electrophysiology procedures
- Ensure informed consent has been obtained and patient questions and concerns are addressed
- Safely operate and troubleshoot complex Hybrid Lab equipment
- Document procedure events and patient care in EMT and Imaging System, including exam time and resource/supply usage
- Annotate images and send studies to Imaging Systems and the correct work list
- Follow radiation safety, personnel safety, infection control, National Patient Safety Goals, TJC standards, and universal infection control guidelines
- Supervise radiologic technology students during clinical rotations and orient new personnel
- Provide support and coverage for radiologic needs in the operating room and invasive areas
- Participate in continuing education and learning experiences to maintain competence
Requirements
What you’ll need- Completion of an AMA accredited Radiology Technology program required
- Two years clinical experience as a Radiologic Technologist in a hospital or surgical setting required
- Two years of intensive training in special procedures preferred
- ARRT (R) registered required
- BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider’ (HCP) - AHA approved required
- New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required; certification required prior to completion of orientation
- ARRT (VI) registered or ARRT (CV) registered required within two years of hire
- All agency and non-hospital-based applicants must have Virginia Radiologic Technologist license application submitted prior to hire and licensure obtained within 90 days of hire
- Demonstrated knowledge of human growth and development required
- Competence in providing Angiographic/Interventional services for patients of all ages including pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric required
- Demonstrated progressive learning required
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill of the moderate sedation process required
- Ability to independently fulfill educational needs to pursue self-development opportunities required
