About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Participate on the clinical ladder, reflecting professional practice and clinical expertise.
- Care for neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Provide services according to physician orders, department policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Perform patient assessments and education.
- Implement therapy and evaluate therapy effectiveness.
- Participate in a multidisciplinary team and communicate patient needs with physicians and the care health team.
- Administer therapy modalities per physician orders, protocols, and policies.
- Perform non-invasive SpO2 monitoring through pulse oximetry.
- Perform airway clearance therapy.
- Perform basic operations in the EHR system.
- Perform regular assessment rounds.
- Clean and set up equipment.
- Perform arterial puncture and blood gas analysis.
- Perform cardiopulmonary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Initiate, operate, and monitor mechanical ventilators.
- Set up and operate non-invasive ventilation therapy.
- Set up and manage high-flow oxygen therapy.
- Respond to and participate in rapid response, emergency, code, and trauma activation situations.
- Assist in bedside therapeutic bronchoscopies and intubations as needed.
- Provide a thorough and accurate report to oncoming staff at shift end.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Completion of an accredited educational program for Respiratory Care is required.
- Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) is required.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification - American Heart 'Healthcare Provider' (HCP) - AHA approved is required.
- New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to the completion of orientation.
- National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is required.
- Strong motivational, time management, and organization skills required.
- Strong verbal communication skills required.
- Ability to demonstrate competency and perform consistently under non-routine conditions and complex situations required.
- Ability to model behavior aligned with Valley Health mission, vision, and values required.
- Ability to work well with client family members to ensure comfort and respect for the client’s illness required.
- Ability to demonstrate a professional attitude at all times required.
- Ability to handle moderate to high stressful situations in a calm and conscientious manner required.
- 20 CEUs bi-annually (VA State Requirement) required.
