About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, build, and roll out Playwright (TypeScript/JavaScript) automation frameworks and keep them stable as suites grow
- Test APIs and microservice-based systems alongside the UI
- Run BDD collaboratively with analysts, developers, and the client
- Diagnose flaky and intermittent failures and find root causes instead of adding retries

- Help define AI-assisted and agent-driven testing practices, including instruction files, reusable prompts, and review gates
- Extend automation coverage into mobile as project needs require, with support
- Coach colleagues and share effective practices in the QA community
- Explain quality risks and technical trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- Work independently, plan your own work, and influence the team and wider QA community
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years in test automation, including 2+ years of hands-on Playwright with TypeScript/JavaScript in production
- Strong command of Playwright’s core model: fixtures, locator strategy, auto-waiting, network interception and mocking, trace-based debugging, and parallel execution
- Experience testing responsive and mobile-web behavior with Playwright, including device emulation, viewports, touch, and cross-browser testing
- Proven experience defining and implementing framework architecture, not only extending one
- API automation and microservices testing, with HTTP and network inspection tools
- CI/CD experience with any major pipeline tool
- Practical BDD experience in an Agile team
- Working AI-assisted practice, including generating tests with AI and identifying tests that pass but prove nothing
- Confidence to question and challenge from a testing perspective, and curiosity to become a subject-matter expert quickly
- Nice to have: hands-on native mobile automation on iOS and/or Android, ideally Appium with WebdriverIO
- Nice to have: experience with another automation stack, such as Selenium-based or non-JS frameworks
- Nice to have: experience building or orchestrating multi-step AI agent workflows for test generation, execution, or triage
- Nice to have: performance or cloud testing exposure
- Nice to have: mentoring, conference talks, or blogging
