About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead end-to-end quality engineering for Canadian payment capabilities, including Interac e-Transfer, payment hub integrations, account-to-account payments, and future Real-Time Rail initiatives
- Translate Interac operating rules, certification requirements, Payments Canada obligations, and RTR readiness requirements into test scenarios, automated quality controls, release evidence, and production readiness criteria
- Define and execute test strategies covering payment initiation, authorization, routing, ISO 20022 validation, clearing, settlement, reconciliation, returns, reversals, disputes, exception handling, and payment finality
- Partner with Fraud, Security, Risk, Compliance, Operations, and Engineering teams to validate controls, authentication, authorization, monitoring, auditability, operational controls, and regulatory compliance
- Build scalable automated validations for payment APIs, event-driven systems, real-time processing, idempotency, duplicate payments, retries, timeouts, resiliency, and 24x7 operational readiness
- Support payment certification, participant testing, production readiness assessments, and release governance by coordinating evidence, defects, dependencies, validation, and quality sign-off
- Translate quality engineering strategy and technical direction into executable plans aligned with business and delivery needs
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to embed quality objectives into delivery contexts
- Implement data-driven automated validation approaches and quality metrics, including automation coverage, test reliability, CI/CD feedback loops, and KPIs
- Implement and enforce quality gates within Dev-owned CI/CD pipelines
- Provide senior technical leadership as a first-among-equals contributor to the Quality Engineering team
- Guide and coach Test Engineers through coding, automation design, engineering, and data analysis
- Identify risks and lead technical problem-solving, risk-based testing, and execution
- Build and evolve automation frameworks across API, service, and UI layers using an API-first approach
- Implement contract testing, service virtualization, and data-driven validation
- Drive migration from Selenium-heavy UI automation to layered API, integration, and minimal UI testing
- Apply AI-assisted and agentic testing approaches
- Partner with developers to improve testability, observability, and API-first practices
- Collaborate with DevOps and release engineering on reliable automated deployments
- Lead root cause analysis for production issues and implement preventative engineering solutions
- Advocate for shift-left quality practices
- Implement automated validation across API, service, and system layers to prevent defect leakage
- Execute performance, security, and regression validation through automated frameworks integrated into pipelines
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, quality engineering, or related field and payments quality assurance
- Strong experience in Canadian payments ecosystems and payment processing concepts
- Experience supporting payment certifications, compliance testing, or production readiness programs
- Experience operating as a Senior Technical Contributor or SDET
- Strong programming skills in Python, JavaScript, C#, or Java
- Proven experience building and evolving automation frameworks
- Experience integrating test automation into CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with non-functional requirements validation
- Experience with scalable API automation frameworks, REST, and event-driven systems
- Hands-on experience with Playwright, Cypress, Postman, or equivalent
- Experience with AI-powered testing or test generation, including LLMs, agentic, and spec-driven automation
- Experience with distributed systems and microservices architectures
- Familiarity with AWS or Azure
- Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes
- Data-driven approach to measuring and improving quality
- Ability to evaluate quality effectiveness by analyzing automation outcomes and identifying patterns and signals
- Ability to work on-site for events and business demands when needed
- Candidates must be based in British Columbia or Ontario
