About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop and implement strategies, policies, and best practices for the power generation engineering department
  • Identify growth opportunities in grid modernization, renewable energy integration, and microgrid development
  • Align engineering services with industry trends and client needs
  • Serve as a key client contact and maintain relationships with electric utility clients
  • Support proposal development, project scoping, and client presentations
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to expand power generation engineering services
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight for electrical engineering design of power generation facilities
  • Serve as Professional Engineer of Record for electrical designs, studies, drawings, specifications, and construction documents
  • Lead design and review of generator systems, interconnections, medium- and high-voltage systems, auxiliary power, switchgear, protection and control, grounding, synchronization, SCADA, automation, relay protection, and electrical studies
  • Ensure deliverables comply with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and client requirements
  • Establish engineering standards, design procedures, quality control protocols, and best practices
  • Support equipment procurement, construction, commissioning, startup, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Oversee the power engineering project portfolio, schedule, budget, and client satisfaction
  • Manage resource planning, staffing, and workload distribution
  • Recruit, mentor, and manage engineers, planners, and designers
  • Foster a collaborative culture focused on safety, innovation, and professional growth
  • Support training and development initiatives

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering is required; power systems emphasis preferred
  • 10-15+ years of electrical engineering experience related to electric power generation facilities
  • Demonstrated experience serving as lead electrical engineer on generation facility projects
  • Experience in electrical design of conventional, renewable, distributed generation, or microgrid facilities
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership or supervisory experience managing engineering staff, technical disciplines, or projects
  • Experience supporting projects through planning, design, construction, commissioning, and startup phases
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Electrical Engineering required
  • Ability to obtain multi-state licensure through comity required
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical systems associated with power generation facilities
  • Strong understanding of generator design, interconnection requirements, grid integration, protection and control systems, and plant electrical infrastructure
  • Experience with natural gas generation, reciprocating engine facilities, combustion turbine plants, renewable generation facilities, battery energy storage systems, and microgrids
  • Knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE Standards, NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NERC Reliability Standards, FERC requirements, and utility interconnection standards
  • Experience performing power system studies and using industry-standard analysis software
  • Strong client engagement and consulting skills
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Experience working with electric utilities, electric cooperatives, municipalities, industrial clients, and independent power producers
