About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop and implement strategies, policies, and best practices for the power generation engineering department
  • Identify growth opportunities in grid modernization, renewable energy integration, and microgrid development
  • Align engineering services with industry trends and client needs
  • Serve as a key client contact and maintain relationships with electric utility clients
  • Support proposal development, project scoping, and client presentations
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to expand power generation engineering services
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight for mechanical engineering aspects of power generation facilities
  • Serve as Professional Engineer of Record for mechanical engineering designs and deliverables
  • Lead design and review of boilers, HRSGs, turbine systems, balance-of-plant systems, cooling water, fuel handling, HVAC, piping, fire protection, water treatment, thermal/process equipment, and district energy systems
  • Ensure calculations, specifications, equipment selections, studies, drawings, and construction documents meet applicable codes, standards, and client requirements
  • Establish engineering standards, design procedures, and quality control processes
  • Support construction, commissioning, startup, and operational troubleshooting
  • Oversee the power engineering project portfolio and ensure delivery on time and within budget
  • Manage resource planning, staffing, and workload distribution
  • Monitor project performance and client satisfaction
  • Recruit, mentor, and manage engineers, planners, and designers
  • Foster a collaborative culture focused on safety, innovation, and professional growth
  • Support training and development initiatives

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required
  • 10–15+ years of mechanical engineering experience related to electric power generation facilities
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership or supervisory experience managing engineering teams, projects, or technical disciplines
  • Demonstrated experience serving as lead mechanical engineer for power generation projects
  • Experience supporting engineering design through construction, commissioning, and startup phases
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering required
  • Ability to obtain multi-state licensure through comity required
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical systems associated with electric power generation facilities
  • Strong understanding of thermal power plant design, operation, and maintenance
  • Experience with gas-fired generation, reciprocating engine facilities, combustion turbines, steam generation systems, renewable generation facilities, and/or microgrid applications
  • Knowledge of ASME, ANSI, NFPA, API, AWWA, OSHA, and applicable state and federal regulations
  • Experience performing equipment selection, piping design, mechanical system analysis, and thermal process evaluations
  • Experience using industry-standard mechanical engineering and design software
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Experience working with electric utilities, electric cooperatives, municipalities, or industrial power generation clients preferred
