About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage capital projects critical to the success of Vermont’s electrical transmission system
  • Execute projects according to scope, schedule and budget
  • Plan, budget, document, oversee and lead projects from conception through completion
  • Represent VELCO with state and federal regulatory staff, members of the public, landowners and distribution utility staff
  • Provide reports to management and the VELCO Board of Directors
  • Lead project planning sessions
  • Coordinate internal and external resources
  • Manage project progress and adapt work as required
  • Ensure projects meet deadlines and costs remain within budget
  • Manage stakeholder relationships
  • Develop bidding documents, Requests for Proposals, evaluations and internal Challenge Board requests
  • Develop, sign off and oversee contracts for materials and services
  • Develop outage schedules when necessary
  • Monitor staff and contractor performance against project plans and company requirements
  • Develop work plans and schedules to manage project resources
  • Develop annual capital budgets and update quarterly forecasts
  • Provide written and oral testimony for proceedings required to receive a Certificate of Public Good under VT Section 248
  • Develop and execute commissioning plans
  • Participate on strategic teams and support company strategic initiatives

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate-level qualifications: Associate of Science degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Project Management or Business Management
  • Mid-career qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Project Management or Business Management
  • Mid-career qualifications: Minimum of 2–4 years’ experience in project management, project controls or other relevant field
  • Senior-level qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Project Management or Business Management
  • Senior-level qualifications: Minimum of 7 years’ experience managing projects with increasing complexity and size
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent skills with Microsoft suite
  • Strong understanding of project management practices and utility infrastructure projects
  • Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Ability to scope, plan, budget and execute work
  • Ability to be both creative and analytical
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Must be able to travel to various project sites
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to work additional hours when necessary
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information
